The Uniontown YMCA offers a competitive gymnastic team for girls ages 6-18 years of age. Gym team participants must be able to perform USGA level 4 gymnastic skills. The Uniontown YMCA currently offers team levels 4 to 8. Gym team participants will compete against other YMCA teams at their own levels and ages. The summer session is used to learn new routines.
Session 1: May 17 - June 7
Practice will be held on Mondays from 4:30-7:30 p.m.
Session 2: June 15 - August 15
Practice will be held on Tuesday & Wednesday from 8:30-11:30 a.m.
Coaches are needed for the upcoming season. Stop in during practice or call the YMCA.
These classes provide instruction for various skill levels on the floor exercise (tumbling), uneven parallel bars, balance beam and vault. Skill levels are based on USGA guidelines. Classes are held Wednesday mornings.

Performing well in school helps youth improve their self esteem, prepare for success later in life, and help makes school a positive experience. If your child is struggling or just wants to improve, get them into the YMCA’s tutoring program. Tutors will be certified teachers or college students. Tutoring is set up by appointment only. All tutoring is one on one. Cost is $20 for an hour session.
This Thursday morning league is designed to permit young golfers the opportunity to play in a supervised setting. This league is for persons who know how to play and is not an instructional program. The first group will tee off at 9:30 a.m. at Springdale Golf Course. Golfers should arrive by 9:00 a.m. Everyone is usually done with their nine holes of play by 12:30 p.m. Any area youth 10-18 years of age or older is eligible to play. Exceptions can be made because of playing ability. You do not have to be a member of the YMCA to participate. The league will begin June 24 and continue every Thursday through August 5.

A weekly green fee of $9.00 must be paid to the golf course.
The Uniontown Area YMCA aquatic staff utilizes the National Y Swim Program. This course is designed in a progressive manner with each level building upon the previous one. The emphasis is on learning and not passing or failing. Each level has activities related to five components, which include: personal safety, stroke development, water sports and games, personal growth and rescue.
The development levels of the Y Swim Program include:
POLLIWOG- Introductory Level. No experience required
GUPPY- Beginner level. Prerequisites: able to paddle stroke 12.5 yards of the pool, able to float 30 seconds each on front and back, be comfortable in deep water.
MINOW: Intermediate Level. Prerequisites: Paddle stroke one length (25 yards), front crawl with rotary breathing (15 yards), tread water (30 seconds)
FISH: Swimmer Level. Prerequisites: Float 3 minutes, front crawl with rotary breathing (25 yards), back crawl (25 yards), tread water for 1 minute
FLYING FISH: Advanced Swimmer. Prerequisites: Float 6 minutes, breaststroke kick, 50 yards each of front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, dolphin kick (25 yards)
SHARK: Beginning Leadership. Prerequisites: 200 yard continuous swim, two lengths each of front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, butterfly and elementary backstroke.
PORPOISE: Leadership skills, speed, endurance and rescue
This class is offered to any 13 and up whom is ‘hesitant’ about being in the water, interested in improving already known skills or learning new skills. Each person has a program designed for their own special needs, which allows everyone to progress at their own individual rate.

Parent/Child program focuses on water adjustment fun/games & songs. This class encourages water exploration through positive parent/child experiences. Children 6 mo. to 5 years of age may participate, (one parent must be in the water).

Pre-School swim lessons consist of four different levels. Children ages 3-5 that have attended a parent/child program can participate. Parent participation is optional.

Learn to Swim week will be held June 7-11 and will consist of two 45-minute swim lessons geared toward non-swimmers ages 3-adult.
Evening classes will be held Monday-Friday. Call the YMCA for available times. Each time slot has an enrollment limit of 30. Times: 4:30-5:15 p.m., and 5:15-6 p.m.

This class is an ideal form of exercise for all ages and will increase physical strength and endurance without butting stress and strain on joints. Swimmers and non-swimmers alike can participate in this type of exercise. It is ideal for rehabilitation of injuries. The class is held May31-July 17 (7 weeks), July 19-August 28 (6 weeks)

All Day Camp Programs provide a positive, fun, and safe environment for youth. The camps are held from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday with early drop off services available 7:30-8a.m. and late pick up services 5-5:30 p.m. Please note: times for some off camps may vary.
The camps provide a variety of activities designed to develop the spirit, mind, and body of each camper. Some of the activities include Christian emphasis, character development, sports, craft making, competitive and cooperative games, guest speakers, field trips and recreational swimming in the YMCA and Wharton Park sites.

The Uniontown Area YMCA will conduct the 8th Annual Day Camp Program at Wharton Park in Farmington, PA. The program is open to children who completed Kindergarten through 7th grade in the 2009-2010 school year.

This volleyball camp is open to girls who will be entering 5th-8th grade next school year (2010-2011). The objectives of the program are to:
1. Teach fundamental volleyball skills
2. Help each player improve upon their current skill level
3. Learn the basic rules and strategies of volleyball
4. Have fun
The camp will be conducted by former and current high school/college volleyball players. These instructors will use their experience, knowledge, and abilities to help each of the campers improve their volleyball skills and individual personal character. The campers will participate in a variety of drills, learn drills they can do on their own or with a partner to develop their skill level, participate in contests and compete in volleyball games.

This program will give women ages 18 and up the opportunity to brush up on their basketball skills, get exercise, compete and have fun. The program will be held on Sundays 2:30 pm – 4:30 p.m starting June 13, 2010.

The campers will receive instructions on the basketball fundamentals, plus participate in a variety of drills, contests, and games to develop their skills. The camp will be open to those entering 2nd to 8th grade next school year (2010-2011). The YMCA’s basketball camp will give the players the opportunity to learn, practice, compete, have fun and meet new friends. The camp will be run by Wane Gladman (Albert Gallatin Boys Head Coach) and Amy Bandzuch (Laurel Highland Girls Head Coach).

Get the benefits of a good cycling workout, which include aerobic conditioning, calorie/fat burning, toning and strengthening for the legs and working on your cycling technique and conditioning, regardless of what the weather is like outside. Cycling is less strenuous on the joints and muscles compared to other aerobic exercises. Classes are held twice a week.

The purpose of Aquarobics is to encourage people of all ages to utilize the buoyant qualities of water to enhance their physical fitness. In addition to swimming, water can make some movements possible that would be very difficult on land. It's an ideal form of exercise for all ages and increases physical strength and endurance without putting stress and strain on joints. Swimmers and non-swimmers alike can participate in this type of exercise. Benefits are derived from reducing emotional stress and tension, improving physical appearance and encouraging and improving feelings of well-being and self-esteem. It is also ideal for rehabilitation of injuries.

The Silver Sneakers Fitness Program is offered in partnership with select health plans at no additional cost to Medicare-eligible members. In our area, the participating insurance company is Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, and the plans are SecurityBlue, FreedomBlue, MedigapBleu, and Health Options Program. Each member is entitled to a basic membership which includes Silver Sneaker group exercise classes, guidance from qualified fitness instructors and Senior Advisors, social activities and the use of other amenities such as the walking track, strength training and cardiovascular equipment, swimming pool, whirlpool sauna, etc.
The Silver Sneakers classes are strength and conditioning classes designed for older adults. They are appropriate for those who exercise regularly as well as those who may not have exercised in years. The exercises are designed to improve your strength and flexibility to perform activities such as getting out of your car or lifting your grandchildren!
The art class is for youth who completed grades 1-6 in the 2009-2010 school year. The children will be learning and practicing two and three dimensional drawing, painting and construction. The class is ideal for children who enjoy art projects and want to develop artistic abilities. Join the YMCA art class for fun, learning and meeting new friends.

This class provides a variety of fun movements, activities and skills for children ages 3-5. The class will keep the participants active, while teaching them locomotor movements and sport skills.
The class will include warm-up songs and activities, skill learning and practice, plus parachute activities and games. There are two separate classes, one is held on Wednesdays 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. the second is held Thursdays 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

This program is for moms and children ages 6 months - 3 years of age. The class begins with warm-up and movement songs and activities play time for the children while the moms exercise, then class ends with parent/child parachute activities. The class will be held on Fridays 10:30-11:15 a.m.
The parent/child gymnastics class is for 2-5 year olds. Each class begins with warm-up songs, exercises and stretches. The parents then help the children through various gymnastic skills with the direction of the instructor. Each class is completed with parachute games and activities. The class is held on Thursdays from 10:45-11:30 a.m.
